I am currently playing with just The Sims Deluxe which is the Base game and the first expansion (Livin' Large) in order to get me back into this game. The only reason why it even includes the first expansion is that the Base game will not install on an XP computer and work, so it has to be Deluxe or Double Deluxe and I gave Double Deluxe to my youngest niece because I thought The Sims 2 might be a little too advanced for her, but then it turned out it wasn't and so both my nieces now have The Sims 2 installed on their computers. Once I feel like my Sims aren't going to die and I have tried everything the game has to offer successfully I will add the next expansion pack and then I will go through and try the new things added to the game and probably replay some base game families to see if things go any differently. Then rinse and repeat through all of the expansion packs until I am trying to master Makin' Magic. There will be normal playing in here as well, but to start each new game it will be trying to learn how to keep the Sims alive.
The second disclaimer is that the image size will change during all of the posts because of the in game camera and that is my version of cropping for now. As those who read my journal regularly know, I have mental fogging issues due to migraines and so I have to find "shortcuts" to most things to allow for maximum accomplished during the day. My shortcut for The Sims playing and posting is not worrying about the image size or trying to crop things out after the fact to keep everything the same size. This may make for less than aesthetically perfect posts, but I will trust that my livejournal friends will give me some leeway with this.
So I am starting the pictures with one of the Newbie home as it is when you first load the game other than Bob is not in the shower when you load the game, he is in the kitchen. I am doing this more as a reference to me because I always dislike changing Maxis made homes and one of my goals for this year is to break that habit and allow me to modify the homes to make them more functional (like in this case Bob and Betty will be needing separate beds for a while because mine always seem to hate each other no matter how hard I try). My theory is that if I have a picture of what it originally looked like I will be able to say to myself that the picture is there and I will not forget what it originally looked like because if I need to I can go and look at the picture again.
I don't know how much sense that made but it is how my brain works so hopefully this will help.
The first thing Bob and Betty did was get jobs in Law Enforcement because I decided I wanted them to make money during the motives freezing tutorial. If I had realized I would only get one day of the tutorial in I might have had them wait until the next day.
After they got there jobs they studied Cooking like almost all Sims do because I do not want house fires and now I cannot remember if there is a fire alarm in their home, I will have to go and check when I load the game again, provided I remember.
Their police uniforms.
I am pretty sure this is a picture of them going to work. Not sure why but I really wanted a picture of the car and this one came out the best of the four I took and is the only one where they are both fully in the image with the car.
Once they got back from work I had to stop play for the day. I am trying to keep speed 3 to work and sleep times because all my Sims tend to do is study and so with Speed 3 you can miss a lot of days and my Sims tend to die of starvation because they are too stupid to exit the action when their motives drop too low like it says they will in the guide. I am also hoping that by banning Speed 3 on non-work/sleep times, it will make me bored of watching them study and I will actually have them do other things that will be more interesting than Sim with nose stuck in a book, but we will see how well that works.
